Botox® is a form of botulinum toxin type A, an agent used to reduce muscle
contraction.
One of the most widely used products in the cosmetic medical
field, injectable Botox® is currently used in a variety
of ways. The most common cosmetic procedure is injection into
specific areas of the face and neck to relax the muscles,
which when contracted repeatedly cause facial furrows and
lines. There is an immediate result, as well as a cumulative
improvement over several days.
It is widely used in the glabella, the area of the forehead
between the eyebrows, to smooth the furrows caused by frowning,
in the skin to the side of the eyes to eliminate crow’s
feet, in the chin, in prominent, ropy tendons of the neck
to smooth the neck, and, occasionally, around the mouth to
relax the muscles that cause vertical lines in the upper lip.
Botox® is also FDA approved for use in hyperhidrosis,
excessive perspiration under the arms, on the palms of the
hands and on the soles of the feet. |
