CO2 laser resurfacing is performed to selectively vaporize
the top layer of the skin, permitting the healthier underlying
skin to regenerate new collagen and epidermal cells.
Using the CO2 laser, the physician precisely controls the beam of light,
which minimizes a patient’s risk of scarring and other
complications. Discomfort is usually minor both during and
after the procedures.
Initially there may be prominent swelling and crusting. These
resolve over the first week. The new skin is quite pink and
patients will typically elect to use makeup to conceal the
color. Complete healing occurs over 30 to 90 days and results
in smoother, tighter skin. |
