Developed by Dr. Frederic Mohs in the 1930’s, MOHS micrographic surgery
is a highly developed, highly specialized procedure for the
removal of skin cancer. Using microscopic examination and
colored dyes, the surgeon can pinpoint the cancerous areas
and selectively remove them, thus tracing the cancer to its
“roots” and preserving as much normal tissue as
possible. With a 97% to 99% success rate, an excellent chance
of cure is achieved.
Although one cannot guarantee a 100% cure, because of this
complete systematic microscopic control to search out and
capture the cancerous cells, MOHS is the most effective and
viable treatment for select skin cancers.
